  • Despite 75-80% homology, sensitization to tropomyosins (e.g. dust mite Der p 10) may be a good marker of clinical sensitivity to crustaceans but not to mites
    • In patients with true crustacean food allergy and positive SPT to mites, evaluating for specific dust mite markers (Der p 1/2, Der f 1/2) may be required to confirm true dust mite sensitivity
  • Due to cat/dog/horse serum albumin cross-reactivity (Fel d 3, Can f 3, Equ c 3), evaluation for specific markers for cat, dog, and horse (Fel d 1/4, Can f2/5, Equ c 1) may be required to confirm true cat, dog, or horse sensitivity when there is multiple SPT positivity to these animals
  • False negative SPT to dog may be due to patient sensitization to Can f 5 (prostate derived allergen produced by male dogs that is poorly represented in SPT extracts made from dander)
    • Can f 5 sensitivity can be evaluated by component testing and this may explain patient reports of sensitivity to specific dogs
  • Clinical relevance of profilin as an aeroallergen is unknown, but there is evidence that it can induce symptoms in nasal/bronchial challenge tests
